REVIEWS
It was my first experience with Mixed Media as a person who does art as a hobby and I had a wonder-filled time. The teacher, Jake LaCavera, was very knowledgable and communicated clearly and he made me feel confident that I could create something and to my great joy I love the piece I created in the class. This class made me want to do more Mixed Media art on my own!

This piece is inspired by a character in one of my favorite childhood shows, Avatar: the Last Airbender. The behind-the-scenes animation process for this show was one of my first introductions to technical drawing skills at 10 years old. I remember watching snippets of the animators using live action martial art movement as reference. This show was also very spiritual it helped me learn fundamental concepts of nature, meditation, and the ebb and flow of life. The show recently made a comeba

This drawing started as a tribute piece to a musician that I am a fan of, Playboi Carti, and was inspired by the Art Nouveau style. I used colored pencils and Posca markers to get the vibrant colors I wanted, and I was very excited with the outcome. This project taught me compositional skills as well as the benefits of sticking to a defined color scheme.

This canvas was an old painting sitting on the floor of my studio. I decided to paint over it, so for a few months I used it to clean off my brushes of extra paint, my roller when I was gelli printing and ink and anything else I had left over from what I had been working on. I then collaged some things on with the intention of painting a skull on it. Being an intuitive painter, when I got out my oils and was about to begin, I knew it had to be a portrait. This was painted from a photo I got o

This image was hand drawn and oil painted on a 12x16 canvas sheet. It is in memory of a baby Squirrel that myself and my teenage daughter raised years ago. We called him Icarus.I was Veterinarian Technician at the time and my daughter actually grew up to be a Veterinarian. Such laughs we had with that baby Squirrel!

I really enjoy painting on black shuen paper. Since certain colors and washes do not show up very well, you really have to plan out your colors and markings. For this one, I used mostly dots in Chinese mineral blue and green and gold poster paint.
